We all have busy lives and are pulled in many directions at work and home. You come home exhausted, feeling you didn’t accomplish all the things you wanted to at work, and now you have to switch into home life. It can feel like you are on the hamster wheel going nowhere. You can take back control of your day/life. Using this 20-minute program to achieve work/life balance stress-free every day will help keep the hours you are working extremely productive and your home life enjoyable.
You have 24 hours in every day. Figuring out the right balance for you is important for your overall well-being and happiness. If not in balance, your ability to stay focused and productive diminish, which in turn leads to getting behind and feeling you need to work even more. Having that balance at home and work is important to your mental as well as physical health.
This 20-minute exercise each day allows you to achieve work/life balance stress-free:
- Five minutes of meditation. This exercise at the beginning of each day is critical to your success. This allows you to get centered, focused, and most importantly calm before starting your day. If meditation is not your thing, find some type of calming exercise that you like to help center, focus, and calm yourself.
- Five minutes for planning. Once you’ve meditated, it’s time to plan your day. Getting your day organized allows you to be most productive with your day. Prioritize your tasks based on their importance and due date. As you prioritize, put a few minutes in through-out your day for interruptions and unexpected to-dos. Include planning for home life as well.
- Five minutes for checking in. Take a minute several times during the day to check-in. See your progress on accomplishing your plan. Assess how well you’ve been able to stick to your plan. Have you accomplished your important tasks? Have you been able to manage your day without losing your cool? There may be times when you’ll have to readjust your list of tasks. Do your best to stick to your plan and know that things will intrude. If you do get off track, don’t beat yourself up or lose your cool, just take a few deep breathes to refocus and get back on track.
- Five minutes for winding down. Now that you’ve come to the end of the day, it’s time to wind down. You’ve probably never allowed yourself the opportunity to do that before. Taking time to wind down is the best way to relieve the stress of the day. Engage in some relaxing activity. Do you like yoga or would you prefer to sit quietly and listen to jazz music? Let go of what happened today and use this time to switch into home life. Winding down allows you to be present in your home life.
Doing these 4 steps everyday will make achieving work/life balance truly stress-free These 20 minutes every day allows you to be more present in whatever activity you are doing, whether work or personal. It is important in the beginning and throughout, if you miss a step or a day, don’t quit. Just start up the next day and overtime, it will become a natural part of every day.
